My Year in Review: 2022

Year 2022 was a less productive year for me in terms of blogging, as I only managed to write two articles, both of which were about remote work (🇬🇧) and running (🇮🇩). This was an unexpected result for me, as I had hoped to be more productive and to write more articles on a variety of topics. Despite this, I learned a lot about remote work and running, and I was able to share my insights with others through my articles.

Superball Run 2022 - Jakarta

This post is my annual blog post about what happened in my life in 2022. I hope we can learn something from this year experiences.

January

Starting the new year with positive activities such as running, cycling, and volunteering can be a great way to set a positive tone for the year ahead. Exercise is not only good for your physical health, but it can also have a positive impact on your mental health and well-being.

I started the first day of this year with running 22 km to celebrate the new year. I commited to make a new habit: running half marathon at least once a month.

At work we emphasized again on the importance of following remote-work communication protocol which prioritize written documentation both in dedicated work chat tools and in project management tools. I've been very strict about this rule and never hesitate to fire team members who can't get along.

In the first week of this year I checked one item from my bucket list: cycling Bandung-Jakarta-Bandung. In the first day I cycled from Bandung to Jakarta via Puncak, and I really enjoyed it. Then in the second day I cycled back from Jakarta to Bandung via Purwakarta. Unfortunately, I didn't finish the last 17 km because it was raining so hard, the road was too dark, and there were still a lot of big trucks. I hope I can repeat this trip again in the future with better conditions.

Volunteering is another great way to start the year off on a positive note. By giving back to your community and helping others, you can feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment that can carry over into other areas of your life.

This month I returned to volunteer in Kelas Inspirasi Lombok. It was amazing experience and it's always good to catchup with old friends who are also passionate in education volunteering.

Engaging in physical activity like running or cycling can help you feel more energized, boost your mood, and reduce stress and anxiety. This month I also managed to cycle around Lombok and visited Mandalika beach by bike. I was a great experience!

Whether you choose to run a half-marathon, go on a cycling adventure, or volunteer at a local charity, starting the year off with positive activities can help set the stage for a happy and fulfilling year.

February

It was Chinese new year and I started the day with morning run around Gili Trawangan with my friends from Kelas Inspirasi Lombok. The weather was warm and sunny, making it a great time to enjoy outdoor activities such as running. Whether you are an experienced runner or just looking to enjoy a leisurely jog, Gili Trawangan is a beautiful and welcoming destination.

This year I had the experience of traveling from Lombok to Bali by boat. The journey was adventurous since we departed around midnight. Once I arrived in Bali, I took the time to run a half marathon while enjoying the sunset on the beach. It was an incredible experience, with the sound of the waves and the stunning sunsets providing a beautiful backdrop for my run. Whether you are a seasoned runner or just looking for a unique and memorable way to explore Bali, running long distance while taking in the natural beauty of the island is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

The varied terrain of Bali, with its mountains, rice paddies, and beaches, provides a scenic and challenging course for both running and cycling. Whether you prefer the solitude of running along quiet back roads or the thrill of cycling through bustling cities, Bali has something for everyone.

March

At work we often found that clients who want to have "agile development" are usually confused and clueless about what they need or what they want. Providing education and support to clients who are new to agile development can help them become more comfortable and confident in using this approach.

Cycling 100 km ++ from Jakarta to Bogor was a monthly routine until last March. The journey took me through the bustling city of Jakarta and into the lush, green countryside of Bogor.

As a mentor for MBA ITB students, I have had the experience of sharing that sales is the most important thing in business. I have found that startup founders often underestimate the importance of sales and tend to focus more on other aspects of business, such as product or engineering. However, I believe that sales is the foundation of any successful business. Without sales, a business cannot generate revenue and will not be able to sustain itself.

My first experience in joining a half marathon race in 2022 was an exciting one. I had been training for months, and I was eager to test my endurance and see what I was capable of. The race itself was well-organized and I was proud of myself for achieving a personal best time.

April

Cycling from Yogyakarta to Solo in very hot weather, bad air pollution, and then heavy raining was a challenging experience. The heat and humidity made it difficult to maintain a consistent pace, and the air pollution could cause irritation to the eyes and respiratory system. The heavy rain also made the journey more treacherous, with slick roads and reduced visibility. The combination of these extreme conditions were quite physically and mentally demanding, so I switched my monthly cycling routine to more long-distance running in the following months.

It was my first time experience running half marathon in the evening. It can be difficult to push ourselves to exercise, especially when we don't feel like it, but it is often worth it in the end as it can have numerous benefits for our physical and mental well-being.

May

Visiting Malang and taking the time to run around the city was a great experience. I had the opportunity to visit Malang because we had a new team in the city, and I wanted to take the opportunity to get to know the area and meet the team. Running around the city was a great way to see the sights and get a feel for the place.

June

June was a busy month for everyone in our company as we had deadlines for many projects approaching. We were all working hard to meet these deadlines and to ensure that our projects were completed on time. Despite the busy schedule, we were able to stay focused and work effectively as a team.

However, the workload was so intense that we had to postpone our company gathering event, which was a disappointment for everyone. We were all looking forward to taking a break and celebrating our achievements together, but we knew that we had to prioritize our work and make sure that everything was completed to the best of our ability.

July

It's good to be back to Kelas Inspirasi Yogya. I enjoyed the opportunity to share my knowledge with elementary students and to help them grow. The students were eager to learn and were full of energy and curiosity. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and one that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to give back to their community and make a positive impact in the society.

Right after Kelas Inspirasi Yogya, I returned to Bandung and prepared to run another half marathon race. Participating in a running event with my classmates and seniors was a great experience. It was a chance for us to reconnect and to bond over a shared goal, and it was a lot of fun to be able to support each other and cheer each other on during the race. The race itself was well-organized, taking us through some of the city's most iconic landmarks and neighborhoods.

August

Running two half marathon races in a month was a challenging and rewarding experience. It required a lot of training and discipline, as I had to maintain a consistent training schedule and focus on my nutrition and recovery in order to be ready for both races. However, the sense of accomplishment and pride I felt upon completing both races was indescribable.

The first race was Jogja Marathon and I participated in this event with my parents. They were both hesitant at first, as they had not run in a race before and were not sure if they were up to the challenge. However, I encouraged them to give it a try and promised to support them along the way. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and one that we will always treasure.

From Jogja I traveled to Bali for another race event and company gathering. I cross-trained by cycling 100 km from Kerobokan to Ubud. The journey took me through beautiful landscapes and small villages. It was a refreshing way to see the sights and explore the island.

Exercise and sleep are both important factors for me to consider when it comes to maintaining my physical and mental health. Exercise has numerous benefits for the body and the mind. Sleep is also important for overall health and well-being, as it helps to restore the body and mind and enables us to function at our best. By taking care of our own health and well-being, we can better serve our teams and organizations and lead by example.

Participating in the Maybank Marathon, which is the most popular race in Indonesia because of its great scenery, was a great experience. The race was well-organized and the route was breathtaking. The support of the crowd was amazing, and the sense of accomplishment I felt upon crossing the finish line was indescribable. I was especially proud of myself for achieving a personal best time in this race, as it showed that all of my hard work and dedication had paid off. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and one that I will always treasure.

We were blessed that we finally had company gathering in Bali. It was a great experience, as it was a chance for us to finally meet each other in-person after 2.5 years of working remotely and never seeing each other. It was a bit strange at first, as we were all used to communicating through video calls and email, but it was also exciting to finally be able to put faces to names and to spend time together as a team. We had a lot of fun exploring Bali and taking part in team-building activities, and we were able to get to know each other better and build stronger relationships. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and one that we all enjoyed. It was a reminder of the importance of in-person connections and the value of spending time together as a team.

September

Staying one month in Bali and cycling around the island was a great experience. I enjoyed the opportunity to explore the island and to experience the local culture and way of life. Bali is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and its vibrant culture, and I was able to take in all of this and more during my stay.

I celebrated my birthday by watching the sunrise at Sanur beach and running a half marathon along the beach. The sunrise was beautiful and the views from the beach were breathtaking. It was a peaceful and tranquil setting, and it was a great way to start my special day.

October

It was a chance for me to push myself and see what I was capable of, and it was a lot of fun to be able to set a new personal distance record : 27 km. It was also a reminder to prepare myself for a full marathon in 2023.

Having the opportunity to organize Informatika Charity Run 40K for my alumni association was a great experience. It was a chance for me to give back to my community and to make a positive impact. I enjoyed the opportunity to plan and coordinate the event, and it was a lot of fun to be able to bring everyone together for a good cause. The charity run was well-attended and we were able to raise a significant amount of money for the scholarship. It was a great feeling to know that we were making a difference and to see the positive impact of our efforts.

November

Running a half marathon around the Borobudur temple was a great experience. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the most iconic and beautiful landmarks in Indonesia. It was a lot of fun to be able to explore the temple and its surroundings on foot and to take in the sights and sounds of the area. The route was well-marked and the support of the crowd was amazing. It was a great feeling to cross the finish line.

We also conducted a charity run at Suitmedia. It was a chance for us to give back to our community and to make a positive impact in the world. The charity run was well-attended and we were able to achieve a new distance record of 2,069 km. We decided to convert every mile run to a donation to orphanages, which was a great way to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

December

ITB Ultra Marathon 2022 that I was planning to participate in was unfortunately postponed, but I was able to find another race to replace it: Superball Run 2022. It was a great opportunity for me to challenge myself and to set a new personal distance record: 30 km.
